Intervista a Nettie, webmaster di MyColdplay.com

Ciao Nettie. I Coldplay stanno tornando. Finalmente. Tralasciando la 'questione titolo', quali sono le reali aspettative e speranze che l'ambiente anglosassone ripone nel loro nuovo disco?
E' stata un'attesa veramente lunga. Sono sicura di non essere la sola che sta intensamente pregustando quello che il nuovo album porterà. Spero in un sound completamente diverso e un senso di maturità ancor più spiccato per la band. Orizzonti sonori ampliati e più armonia fra i quattro. Le influenze spagnole che hanno avuto mi interessano particolarmente perchè ho una vera affinità con quel paese e i suoi costumi.

Quest'anno, la leadership sarà un 'fatto difficile': sono previste pubblicazioni anche per Oasis, U2 e Verve. Pensi che la band di Chris Martin possa tornare sulla vetta del panorama musicale internazionale?
I fan dei Coldplay sono molti e molto leali. Anche le altre band che hai menzionato hanno dei fan fedeli, ma non le puoi paragonare. I Coldplay hanno una nicchia nel mercato musicale e sono gli unici in grado di riempirla. Altre band arrivano e cercano di imitarli, ma i Coldplay sono e saranno sempre unici. E come ha detto Chris Martin, ha scritto la canzone che tutti devono ascoltare prima di morire. Non ho nessun minimo dubbio che la band manterrà la promessa e tornerà sicura e spavalda e attirerà ancora più fan.

Sei convinta che i 'rumours' che hanno circondato la band possano aver intaccato (anche se pur in piccola parte) il buon lavoro del gruppo per il prossimo album?
Amo i Coldplay incondizionatamente e non ho l'aspettativa che rimangano sempre uguali e facciano sempre lo stesso tipo di musica (come alcune altre band che non posso nominare). Hanno mostrato di saper variare musica in tutti i loro album e mi sembra che la loro popolarità non abbia subito danni. Mi fido del fatto che la band sa cosa sta facendo con il nuovo album. Non vedo l'ora di ascoltare "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends" in macchina, al volume massimo, con i finestrini abbassati per mostrare al mondo che è e sarà un album abbagliante.

Passiamo a te. Secondo te, qual è il miglior album e quale la migliore canzone dei Coldplay?
Non ho un album o una canzone in particolare che mi piacciano di più perchè è così difficile scegliere. Per me sono tutte ottime. Alcune canzoni mi hanno aiutata a superare certe situazioni nella mia vita. In particolare 'Everything's Not Lost' e 'Shiver' da Parachutes, 'In My Place' e 'The Scientist' da AROBTTH, 'What If' e 'Fix You' da X&Y. Gran parte della musica dei Coldplay mi solleva d'animo e mi fa sentire bene ed è di questo che ringrazio la band. Mi fanno stare meglio.

Chi ti conosce lo sa che sei una profonda amante della musica. Ci sono altre passioni che accantonano quella per cui hai deciso di aprire un posto come MyColdplay.com?
Beh, MyColdplay.com è il mio 'bimbo' più importante, ma mi piace anche sostenere altre band che mi piacciono e ho messo su alcuni fansite, perchè vedo che non ci sono molte informazioni su di loro su internet - quindi, se avete 5 minuti date un occhio a www.SergePizzorno.com [un sito sui Kasabian], www.KeleOkereke.net [un sito sui Bloc Party] e www.TheThirstFans.com [per la nuova band The Thirst, che secondo me diventerà presto famosa]. I miei siti sono solo un modo per esprimere il mio amore per queste band e, spero, di mostrare anche un po' la mia personalità. E poi mi piace sempre fare qualcosa di diverso, mi piace tenermi occupata.

Cosa ne pensi di Coldplayzone.it? Qui vogliamo una tua risposta sincera...
E' fantastico che i fan in altri paesi abbiano un posto in cui poter trovare informazioni e news sui Coldplay nella loro lingua. Coldplayzone.it è uno dei migliori. So che avete lavorato sodo sul sito e mi congratulo con voi.

Pensi che il lavoro di fanzine, siti non ufficiali e blog di vario genere sui Coldplay possano, in un certo senso, aiutare la band fungendo da 'ripetitore' dei loro messaggi?
Assolutamente! So per sicuro che il management della band controlla le cose. E non mi sorprenderebbe che qualcuno della band e/o i loro amici/famiglia abbiano dato un occhio ai fansite per capire cosa pensano le persone. I Coldplay sono andati in Sud America dopo continue petizioni, quindi abbiamo una voce che alcune volte viene ascoltata. Però stiamo ancora aspettando il secondo DVD dei Coldplay...;)

Ciao fan italiani dei Coldplay! Avete una vera passione per la musica dei Coldplay ed è molto evidente e vi ringrazio per la vostra devozione nei confronti della band. Un giorno potrei addirittura riuscire a venire in Italia per vedere un concerto dei Coldplay e mi piacerebbe molto conoscere qualcuno di voi se mi si presenterà l'occasione. Hi Nettie. Coldplay are coming back. At Last. Apart from the 'title case', which are the real expectations and hopes that Uk puts in the new disc?
It's been a very long wait. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is deeply anticipating what the new album will bring forth. I'm hoping for a completely different sound from Coldplay and an even greater sense of maturity of the band. Expanded sonic horizons and more four-party harmony. The spanish influences they have encountered are of particular interest to me as I have a real affinity with the country and it's customs.

This year, the leadership will be an 'hard affair': incoming releases even for Oasis, U2 and The Verve. Do you think that Chris Martin's band could come back on the top of international music scene?
Coldplay's fanbase is huge and very loyal. The other bands you've mentioned also have their own fanbases, but you cannot compare them. Coldplay have a niche in the musical market that only they can fill. Other bands come along and try to imitate, but Coldplay are and will always be unique. And as Chris Martin has mentioned, he's written the song that everyone needs to hear before they die. I don't have any doubt in my mind that the band will deliver on that promise and will come back, guns blazing and gain even more fans.

Are you convinced that the several rumours surrounding the band have make a dent in (even in a minimum part) the good work of the band for this upcoming album?
I love Coldplay unconditionally and I don't have an expectation that they have to remain the same and make the same sounding music all the time [like certain other bands I could mention]. They've shown musical diversity on all of their albums and I feel they haven't dented their popularity. Just trust the band that they know what they're doing with the new album. I am particularly looking forward to playing 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends' in the car, with the volume at maximum, windows down to show the world that it is and will be a blinding album.

Focus on you now! Which is the best album and the best Coldplay song according to you?
I don't have a particular album or song that I like over all because it's so hard to choose. As far as I'm concerned it all good. Certain songs have helped me cope with certain situations in my life, personally. In particular 'Everything's Not Lost' and 'Shiver' from Parachutes, 'In My Place' and 'The Scientist' from AROBTTH, 'What If' and 'Fix You' from X&Y. A lot of Coldplay's music lifts you up and makes me feel great and that's what I am thankful to the band for. They make me feel better.

Who deeply knows you has in mind that you're a huge music lover. Are there any other passions close to the first that allowed you to open MyColdplay.com?
Well, Mycoldplay.com is my main baby, but I also like to support other bands that I love and have set up little fansites for them, as I feel there isn't enough information about them on the net - so, if you have 5 minutes please check them out www.SergePizzorno.com [a Kasabian webiste], www.KeleOkereke.net [a Bloc Party website] and www.TheThirstFans.com [for new band The Thirst, who I believe will be huge soon]. My sites are just a way of expressing my love for these bands and hopefully, I bring a bit of my personality to them also. Plus, I have itichy feet and always like to keep busy.

What do you think about Coldplayzone.it? Please answer honestly!
It's great that fans in other countries have a place they can go and find out Coldplay news information in their own language. Coldplayzone.it is one of the best. I know you have worked very hard on the website and I congratulate you.

Do you agree that the work of fanzines, non-official sites and blogs about Coldplay helps, in a sense, the band, function as 'antenna tower' of their messages?
Absolutely! The band's management have their eye on things I know for sure. And it wouldn't surprise me that individual bandmembers and/or their friends/family have visited fansites to get the low down on what people are thinking. Coldplay did go to South America after being heavily petitioned, so we do have a voice and it does get heard on occaision. However, we are still waiting for a 2nd Coldplay DVD...;)
